Aries is the positive sign of Mars, the cardinal sign of fire, the first sign of the zodiac and the head of the Cosmic Man. His symbol is a ram. Aries stands for independence, strength, self-expression and a strong personal approach to life.
The Aries type is dynamic, aggressive, competitive, and extremely enterprising. Aries people often live in the future, love to make plans, but are exceptionally insightful and receptive. Mars is the son of the Earth in Hindu mythology. Hence, he is called Kuja or Bhumija, "the one bom from the Earth". He is the flame hidden in matter; his energy demands manifestation in material form. He can also bring out the negative or dark sides of the Earth energy, the titanic primordial powers, the Asuras or demons of the abyss who wish to destroy the creation and bring things back to the state of raw chaos. This inertia or tamasic quality behind Mars energy must not be forgotten.
Mars is the planet of power, strength, courage, and aggression, and measures our ability to project force in life. On the positive side, a strong Mars is necessary to give us the energy, independence, will and self-confidence to carry out our endeavors — qualities it shares with the Sun. Without it we have no real interests, passions, and motivations, no determination, no real intensity or ability to carry out anything to the end and really accomplish it.
On the negative side, this same aggression brings about competition, argument, and conflict — and when unchecked by other factors, it causes domination, control, violence, and injury, a placing of our own personal will-to-power over the good of life. As such, Mars has always been well known as the great God of War. He can make a person militaristic or violent, turn him into a soldier or general, even a criminal if more malefically disposed. He can cause us to inflict death on others. He can also, if he afflicts the factors representing the self in the chart (like the Ascendant and its ruler), bring violence, injury and accident upon ourselves. He can cause our death.
The malefic nature of Mars is well known in most instances of violent death, whether accidental or intentional. Mars also can indicate premature death in a chart, as with the loss of the partner (particularly the loss of the husband in the chart of the wife). He is the general significator for injury, accident, conflict and enmity. Mars creates misunderstandings, arguments and litigation. In this regard Mars is the selfish will that does not take into account the views and needs of others.
In a more positive light, these difficulties come about because Mars insists upon greater independence, differentiation, and clarity of views. He makes us more certain of who we are and who our friends are. He causes discontent and seeking until we discover the real source of power within us.
🏠 In 8 house. Mars, as a malefic in the 8th house, shortens the life span and in certain cases indicates sudden death by accident, weapons, or violence. There may be illnesses involving the reproductive system, such as urinary, ovary, or prostate problems. The person will, however, be excited and enthusiastic about life. He will also be sexually attractive. The person may have diseases due to weak or impure blood. If Mars is afflicted, these ailments may be chronic. The person may have few or no younger brothers and sisters, and he may have difficulties in his relationship with therh. The Immediate younger sibling may have a difficult life. The person may not own any land or property unless the 4th house is well disposed. He may have bad eyesight and problems regarding money, education, and family life due to Mars' malefic aspect on the 2nd house. The person will not benefit from wills, legacies, or insurance companies. He will also gain little wealth from his spouse, and there may often be arguments or troubles arising from dealings involving joint finances. In case of divorce, this placement is not favorable for alimony. Hindu scriptures have stated that the person will have a scarred or deformed body. This may be because Mars is a violent planet and the 8th house is said to rule accidents. The ascendant must, of course, be considered, as it plays the largest role in such matters. The sages have also declared that the person will lust after women of ill repute or have extramarital affairs. If Mars is well aspected or ruling good houses, the greatest gusto for life is indicated. Mars in the 8th house is an indication of Kujadosha, where married life is disturbed or ends in divorce unless the person marries another with a Kujadosha horoscope. The exception to this rule occurs if Mars in this house is posited in the sign of Cancer.
🟢 In own sign. UCHCHA and SWAKSHETRA (exalted and own house). If Mars is in Capricorn, Scorpio, or Aries in the 8th house, the person will be extremely long-lived. He will have a powerful reproductive system and be sexually attractive. He will be very intuitive. He may be fascinated by the occult or metaphysical sciences. 'Extreme' is the one word which sums up Bharani's essential nature and functioning. It swings between polar opposites like puritanism and bohemia, naievete and wisdom, maturity and immaturity and life and death. Bharani is representative of the desire aspect of nature. It is thus in a way a lust for life and a fear of death. Bharani is a 16 year old girl on the verge of deflowering, a baby in the womb or a person facing the Yamadutas (celestial angels whose task it is to guide souls through the afterlife process) after one's death. Because of its childlike quality Bharani is one of the most eager nakshatras. Just like a child wants to experience all of its surroundings, Bharani natives have a desire to experience their surroundings to the fullest. There is a primeval innocence in how they experience things, people and places. They might go through instinct rather than reason.
